To score high on the ASVAB electronics information test, candidates must learn about three core themes that weave themselves through the exam.

Remember that during the electronics information exam, candidates are expected to have a basic understanding of equations that impact the principles of electricity.

  • Measuring Electricity

    Candidates are expected to understand the science behind electricity. This means having a solid understanding of volts, amperes, Ohms, and coulombs. You should also know about watts and the kilowatt-hour and what these are used to measure in respect to the flow of current.

  • Circuits

    Many ASVAB test questions ask about circuits. Topics covered include the symbols of electrical devices; alternating and direct current; capacitors and inductors; transistors; wires; fuses; transducers; the various types of switches; diodes; amplifiers; and antennae.

  • Electrical Principles

    Even though the electronics information test is not included in the AFQT score, you should still understand the principles that underscore electronics – including the various types of resistance, Ohm’s law, frequency, impedance, and the direction of electrical flow.

To score high at the ASVAB electronics information exam, candidates must study in the weeks and months leading up to the exam – taking as many ASVAB test questions as possible.

  • 1Interpret electrical systems. At the very least, candidates must have a robust knowledge of electrical circuits and how those circuits operate. Key to this is knowledge of electrical symbols. You must take the time, preferably using flashcards, to commit all electrical symbols to memory.
  • 2Conductors and insulators. Put together a list of the most common substances that are conductors and that which are insulators. These are substances either widely conduct or widely resist electrical current. Though not a major part of the electronics information exam, they do get tested and this can be easy marks!
  • 3Know units and equations. Similarly, candidates should create flashcards that talk about scientific units and equations, such as Ohm’s law. You must be able to identify what these equations are used for and what units are used for each factor of that equation. Flashcards are the best way to prepare for units and equations.
  • 4Practice ASVAB test questions. Electronics information is one of those exams that focusses on the facts. Try to take as many ASVAB test practice questions as possible in the weeks leading up to the exam.
